How to mow an overgrown Brisbane lawn after rain (without scalping it)
Two weeks of rain and then a run of 30°C+ days means Brisbane lawns are shooting up. Mow it all at once and you scalp it. Here's how to bring it back in a weekend, plus the gear you can hire from Newmarket.

6 rules before you mow
- Take no more than a third of the blade at a time. Cutting more stresses the roots and leaves brown patches. (Source: ALC Turf)
- Really overgrown? Mow high first, then lower the height over two or three cuts a few days apart.
- Mow early morning or evening, not in the heat of the day. Check the BOM forecast.
- Wait until it's firm underfoot. Mowing a waterlogged lawn ruts it and clumps the clippings.
- Compacted or puddling? Core-aerate once the soil has firmed up, so water and air get to the roots.
- Finish with the edges and paths: trim the edges, then blow clippings off paths and driveways.
