Hosting Christmas? A clean driveway and a freshly oiled deck make the biggest difference for the least money. Here's a weekend plan, plus the tools you can hire from Newmarket instead of buying.

The weekend checklist
Saturday morning: wash
- Sweep or blow off the leaves and loose debris first.
- Pressure-wash the driveway, paths and deck with the STIHL RB 600 (3200 PSI). Keep the nozzle moving and test a hidden corner of the timber first.
- Let the deck dry fully (at least 24–48 hours in sun) before sanding or oiling.
Sunday: sand and oil the deck
- Sand grey or splintery boards with the Bosch 18V random orbit sander.
- Oil or stain with the Ozito HVLP sprayer, following the product's coverage and dry times.
- Keep off it until it's dry, then add the outdoor setting and the lights.
Last touches
- Mow the lawn a few days before guests arrive, and blow the paths clean.
- Book early: December weekends fill up and bookings need 3 days' notice.
Ground-level work only. We don't hire ladders, and roof or gutter work from height is a job for a professional.

What do I need to refresh a timber deck?
Wash it first with the STIHL RB 600, then sand with the Bosch 18V random orbital sander ($39/24h). The sander is tool only, so add the Bosch 8.0Ah battery twin pack and charger ($29/24h). Apply oil with the Ozito HVLP spray gun ($15/24h, mains powered).
What about overgrown hedges?
The Bosch 18V telescopic pole hedge trimmer ($49/24h, $80 weekend) comes with an 8.0Ah battery and fast charger, and reaches tall hedges from the ground.
Are there refundable bonds?
Yes, each tool has a refundable bond (for example $350 for the pressure washer and $200 for the mower), refunded after the return check.
